on cropping


The above Muppets poster is adorable in this weird (but best selling!) red ornate lacquer frame with deep spacers.  The image is very cropped from the promotional poster below.


Framers hate trimming art.  Generally the value of any collectible, original, or first run art is substantially diminished by trimming.  I make sure to explain this to any client who requests the trimming of art.  ALWAYS.  I even require a signed permission slip.  In this case, we wanted to remove as much of the advertising as possible--and frame it as a character group photo.  I am very pleased with the result.  The cropping really emphasizes the s q u e e z e into the frame.  Doing this actually increased the value in the eyes of the client.
